LIGHTHOUSE GUILD INTERNATIONAL

LIGHTHOUSE GUILD

The Lighthouse Guild, one of New York City’s leading not-for-profit vision and healthcare organizations dedicated to serving the blind and sight-impaired, recently relocated from two Midtown buildings into one new space. Their programs include multiple schools and clinics, physical rehabilitation and occupational health, adult day care and behavioral health as well as administrative and executive offices.

Integrated Design Group worked closely with the Lighthouse Guild to develop and implement a master plan across five floors of the 100-year-old building on the Far West Side. IDG created healing environments consisting of classrooms and community rooms; clinical, rehabilitation and behavioral health spaces; private offices and workstations; practice rooms; computer labs; conference spaces; and an executive suite.

Elevator lobbies were color-coded using high-contrast colors, and finish selections reflected the unique needs of a sight-impaired user population. Ongoing work at the site includes renovating the building entrances for sight-impaired accessibility and providing large-scale canopies and signage to announce the organization’s presence in the neighborhood.
