HESS STUDENT COMMONS

COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH

IDG was asked to create a new addition for the distinguished Mailman School of Public Health commons area, Hess Commons, housed in the former New York Psychiatric Institute built in the 1920s. IDG’s initial concepts and renderings enabled the School to successfully raise funds for the conversion of the former gymnasium into the Hess Commons.

This two story space is now utilized by students and staff as a lecture hall, study space and dining area which is now connected to a new food concession. The gut renovation included new arched windows, wood paneling, custom banquettes, bamboo flooring and a fully integrated state-of-the-art audio visual system.
